Freshman Spotlight: Georgia WR Marlon Brown

Marlon Brown comes to Georgia out of Harding Academy in Memphis, Tenn were he was named a Parade All-American and the Class 2-A Mr. Football.

He chose the Dawgs over schools such as Tennessee, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, and USC.

Brown finished his high school career with a total of 4203 all-purpose yards and 47 all-purpose tds.

Brown was listed on Rivals.com as a 4-star athlete and the No. 5 WR in the country and Scout.com had him listed as a 5-star athlete and the No. 2 ranked WR in the country.

Brown hopes to cause problems for the DB’s in the SEC with his big athletic frame just as AJ Green did his freshman year in 2008. At 6′5″ and 205-pounds, Brown hopes to be lining up across from the 6′4″ 200-pound Green, giving the Dawgs a 1-2 punch at WR that they have not had in quite some time.

According to georgiadogs.com, coach Richt stated, “I saw Marlon Brown going up strong for a catch and a defender trying to rake the ball out of there and couldn’t do it. He’s got such strong hands.”

With both Brown and Green to throw to, Joe Cox should not have any worries with who is going to come down with the ball in 2009. 

The only question now is, will Brown come close to the 56 receptions 963 yards and eight tds that Green was able to accomplish during his freshman year?

If he does, the WR position in Athens will be a dominate and feared position for opposing teams to account for and will take a lot of pressure off Cox and the rest of Georgia’s offense.
